Who We Are

The Corridor refers to the business district in the East Kensington neighborhood of Philadelphia - The Corridor is bordered by Dauphin St., Frankford Ave, Huntingdon St., and the Marked Frankford Line.

The boundaries of this intentional community are fluid - expanding as more business, artists, and entrepreneurs join.

The Corridor comprises a coalition of curiosities: weirdos, queers, creatives, and silly gooses.

We are some cool chill folks with a stake in the neighborhood who want to make it an even better place to live.

Mission

Our mission is to provide a space for curious creatives in The Corridor to promote their awesome products and services, and a place for consumers seeking novel items and experiences to spend their money.

The East Kensington Curiosities Corridor's Core Values

Hyperlocalism

One major goal of The Corridor is to encourage folks to both make and spend all of their money in the 19125 zipcode.

Freedom

We believe that every person has the right to be free, the right to self-determination.  When this freedom is restricted, either through the intentional use of individual power or systemic oppression, we all suffer.  None of us are free until we all are free.

Frequently Asked Questions

These are some questions we have gotten along the way, along with the best answers we have developed.  This section is meant to be an ongoing dialogue, so feel free to contribute thoughts.

Send us a message to see how you can get involved!  We can always use more folks who are excited about hyperlocal community organizing to support in achieving our goals.

We want to encourage and support ALL small businesses.  Our drive towards hyperlocalism means that we want folks to  have all of their needs met in their immediate neighborhood.  We will highlight and advertise businesses located outside of The Corridor that align with our values, while we support you in establishing a Curiosities Corridor in your own community.

Capitalism is an economic system in which individuals own the means of production -- this is not a problem.  Problems with capitalism arise when one's intergenerational accumulation of wealth gives them an unfair advantage over other entrepreneurs with simply an idea and a dream.  We need competition and innovation in order to continue to propel humanity into the future.  When one individual or company grows too big, they stifle creativity and exploit laborers in order to maximize profits. This is wrong.

Precisely.  We love money.  We love the idea of using one's creativity and passion in order to make money and live a free and comfortable life.  Weeven think that it is acceptable for one person to own the means of production and hire workers - it is when this relationship becomes exploitative that we have a problem.

When your workers aren't happy!  Every employee should feel comfortable approaching the owner with new ideas to improve business policies and procedures, concerns about their health and safety, and steady increases in pay as the business grows.

First, talk to your employer, tell them how you feel, and offer solutions.  If this does not work, come talk to us, and we will help to develop a corrective action plan specific to the situation and to advocate for you and your fellow coworkers.
